In the first phase, players collect dragons to fight with later. To do this, the dragon cards are shuffled and placed face down on the table in three eight-card piles. He turns over the top card of pile A and decides whether to keep it and give the other player the top cards of piles B and C, or to give this card to his opponent and turn over the card of pile B. He can also choose to keep this card and give the card of pile C to his opponent, or to discard it, in which case he must take the card of pile C. Then the active player changes and all the dragon cards are dealt to each other in the same way until each player has 12 dragons.
