H- The stories of Mõmmisalu. Year round of the forest people
The stuffed animal transports all kinds of creatures: squirrels, deer, weasels, mice, titmice, spiders, ants, frogs and many, many others, which the book's conditional protagonist, the bear, invites to discover: "Come to my home forest, swing from the cave too. / There's no end to the excitement in this forest!"
There is enough excitement for every couple of pages of the book: what secrets and stories does the forest hide? In the big picture, the child must be found in the section "Who?" What? Where?' said detail or a small scene in which someone from among the forest people takes part. Next to each picture is a poem, the topic of which is an important event or activity in the child's life, for example a birthday, a school lesson or game, a picnic, building a hut, making a fire, etc. The book is structured around the year, with four pairs of pages for each season. In addition, the "Nature Trail" shares interesting information at the end of the book.
Poet Rachel Piercey and artist Freya Hartas have created a book in which fiction and non-fiction are combined with amazing ingenuity in an attractive form for children, and which is supported by the current idea of nature conservation. The text reaches the Estonian reader through Riina Turi's equally resourceful intermediary.
